Hands-on Activity - Mineral Polymorphs

    Did you know that  minerals with the same chemical formula can look differently? But why?

The molecules in their crystals are packed differently. These minerals are called POLYMORPHS.

Let's do some fun hands-on activity and model minerals Aragonite, Calcite, and Vaterite. They all have a chemical formula CaCO3

Instructions

1. Print this page for each student

2. The students shall cut out the “bricks” from the bottom of the page, using scissors

3. Then they shall glue them in to imitate the patterns of each polymorph, like here
