Exploring the Gyroscope

When something rotates fast, it doesn't want to change it's position.

This principle is used to build devices called gyroscopes. Gyro means "wheel", and scope "observation". In old times gyroscopes were used to observe the Earth rotation. The gyroscope will stay in the same plane, and as the Earth rotes, for us it will look like the gyroscope slowly changes it axis - one full rotation cycle per 24 hours, when in reality it's the gyroscope that stays in place, and we all, together with the house, and the whole Earth are moving.

Let's see what fun and surprising things you can do with a gyroscope.

Gyroscopes are not expensive. You can buy one, and try all of these experiments, and maybe come out with some new ideas for gyroscope tricks.
