Introduction Chemistry - Team Building Activities
Here is a fun, student-centered activity that may be used to start the chemistry lessons at the beginning of the year.
1. The students form groups of 2 to 4 students
2. Each group gets a mineral and its name from the teacher 💎
3. The teacher asks
"What is the periodic table? How many elements are there?"
"And where do we get the elements from? Where do we get the chemicals? - From the ground, for free - you just take it."
"Each country has different minerals. What minerals do we have in our country?"
3. The students research about their mineral in groups for 5-10 minutes, using their personal devices, take notes.
They may mention:
The mineral's name
Chemical formula, what elements are in it
The uses
The price - is it expensive?
Interesting facts
4. The groups volunteer to present.
While some students speak, another walk between the desks and show their mineral to the classmates. In this way everyone will see each mineral.
5. The students clap each time a new group starts and finishes their presentation - be friendly and supportive to your colleagues
6. In the end the teacher summarizes and recaps all that we have learned about each of the minerals
