What is technology? Technology is based on Science and it makes our life easier. After doing all the serious stuff, and answering all the questions, let's play. Connect the dots to see a robot. Label on the robot a sensor, tools, etc. Then do a word search Download the file  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1vDH7RXLMQgkHkp7MBdmzv35gT1MWei2Z?usp=sharing ========================================= Download the file  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1vDH7RXLMQgkHkp7MBdmzv35gT1MWei2Z?usp=sharing

Where Does Bread Come From? and Soil Conservation - An interesting in-class discussion

Image
The last time we learned about soil. We need soil to grow our food. Let's think, where bread comes from, step by step. Then we may think about how do people do agriculture/ grow plants in general; What is plowing ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- See or Download the lesson materials  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1TnbGtIaheXI7-xKuMBZJdciOYVwfO2wX?usp=sharing ====================================================== =================================================== ====================================================== See or Download the lesson materials  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1TnbGtIaheXI7-xKuMBZJdciOYVwfO2wX?usp=sharing

Камені і Мінерали

Image

Soil Horizons - A Hands-On Activity

Image
What will you see if you dig deep under the soil? Did you know that there you will find a solid rock layer called bed rock ?    In fact, we believe that in the past there was no soil, only rocks. But during a long time the rocks were weathered, break, and formed the soil.    Let's label the main layers/ horizons of the soil! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Download the printable worksheet and a solved example | https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1h3fn4OMky0a1iFgDFdDwaVnyAYX152oV?usp=sharing Thanks Vontraciya Davis making the original worksheet. Pumice - the Floating Rock - a Fun Lesson Starter for the Rock Cycle Lesson

Image
Did you know that there is a kind of rock that can float in water? It is called pumice    But how can it do it? Pumice is an igneous rock , which means it is was formed from hot lava. The bubbles of gas that stuck inside pumice make it lighter than water and able to float. Rocks - Online Games, Rock vs Mineral, Textures of Rocks

Image
What is the difference between a rock and a mineral? - Rocks are mixtures, and minerals are pure What are the three textures of rocks? - Glassy, coarse, and fine. Download the lesson materials for this lesson from the Google Drive https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/11NLxFLnhdx5TWVJTHCTcU37RpjKQrTNg?usp=sharing ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a rock from the Corniche beach. You can see that it is a coarse rock. Also, it has many things inside it, like sandstone, barnacles, etc. Therefore it is a rock, not a mineral. https://javalab.org/en/igneous_rock_en Build your own rock, and post a picture of it in the chat https://neal.fun/rocks Play with rocks Blooket  https://www.blooket.com/set/62824a1783e3d12e7de6ddfc ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Download the lesson materials for this lesson from the Google Drive https://drive.google.com/dr

Hands-on Activity - Mineral Polymorphs

Image
Did you know that  minerals with the same chemical formula can look differently? But why? The molecules in their crystals are packed differently. These minerals are called POLYMORPHS. Let's do some fun hands-on activity and model minerals Aragonite, Calcite, and Vaterite. They all have a chemical formula CaCO3 Instructions 1. Print this page for each student https://drive.google.com/file/d/1i3D8aEFppVL4Ti_I5P-UnR2G7FN4_pEf/view?usp=sharing 2. The students shall cut out the “bricks” from the bottom of the page, using scissors 3. Then they shall glue them in to imitate the patterns of each polymorph, like here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nJmIx5F5kw6C5G1G4cRpcrXzoPd-h5Dk/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=107319702544106702140&rtpof=true&sd=true 4. Minerals - Overview

Image
What is the difference between a mineral and a rock? - Minerals are pure, and a rock is a mixture How to identify minerals? - By colour, streak, luster, etc. Why do we need minerals? - For decoration, chemistry, construction https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/17e5EheHeyr70nZxPIKnTeg7EmJCE0ZDz?usp=sharing

Where to Buy Minerals

Image
We are starting to learn about minerals. Minerals look nice and do not expire with time. It is not too expensive to buy some mineral sets online. What is faster - Light or Sound?

Image
What is faster - light or sound? How can we check it?    Turns out that light is near 1 000 000 / one million times faster than sound! In fact, nothing can move faster than light.     Let's see the video and check what reaches us first - the light or the sound. Do we hear the explosion fist, or first we see it? https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1gAP48_t1d7bFzPflT7K_eqwxia1sPU96?usp=sharing

Reflection, Refraction, Lenses, and Mirrors
